Supporting social inclusion with the Hermione, the frigate of liberty

Since 2024

The Teréga Accélérateur d’Énergies endowment fund supports the Hermione-Lafayette association through its “Hissez Haut” (heave ho) civic engagement programme, enabling 125 beneficiaries to get involved in the restoration of a cultural heritage object: the Hermione frigate.

Support for the Hermione-Lafayette association will enable us to offer a strong programme promoting social inclusion through education and training initiatives, as well as raising awareness of the issues involved in protecting the oceans.

The values of the association echo those of Teréga: commitment, transmission, know-how, solidarity and passion.

The “Hissez Haut” (heave ho) civic engagement programme

This programme offers 125 volunteers (including 70 young people under the age of 30) the chance to reengage and gain hands-on training by contributing to the restoration of a unique piece of maritime heritage: the frigate Hermione. Participants develop a broad range of maintenance skills such as painting, sanding, woodworking, and more.

This project also goes further by planning modules throughout the year on career orientation and motivation. The Hermione is part of our sailing heritage and also serves to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our oceans.

What sets the programme apart is its clear intention to reach:

  • people excluded from employment, to aid their reintegration,

  • women, to open up career prospects in historically male-dominated sectors,

  • and young people aged 16 to 30, to spark vocations.

The strengths of the project lie in:

  • the flexibility of the scheme, which adapts to the pace of each beneficiary, with permanent entries and exits;

  • a specific à la carte support programme open to all;

  • intergenerational links between volunteers;

  • networking with all the stakeholders involved in the project: companies, sailors, craftspeople, etc.;

  • and to encourage volunteers to take part in an outstanding cultural heritage project.
